Curd soap is produced using sodium chloride (common salt) and has a fatty acid content of about 75 percent. Through a special manufacturing process called salting out, the “soap core” separates from the soap mass boiling in water. This salting out of the “soap glue” allows undesirable substances such as water-soluble glycerol and others to be separated from the curd soap, leaving behind the “pure” soap. The salts contained in the fatty acids have the characteristics of a surfactant. Due to the absence of glycerine, curd soap acquires its strong fat-solving properties. In most cases, curd soap is free of further added substances, such as dyes or fragrances. Due to the lack of these different ingredients and the lack of excess fat, curd soap is often harder and more productive than other soaps. Curd soap is available in white or yellowish color and is often sold in small square blocks. In some curd soaps, olive oil, lemon or other natural substances may be added, e.g. for special skin caring or fat dissolving properties. However, this is then marked accordingly on the packaging. Curd soaps can be made from animal substances such as beef tallow or exclusively from vegetable substances, i.e. vegan. The possibility to completely dispense with animal ingredients in the production of the soap also increasingly allows environmentally conscious and animal-friendly consumers to choose this pure natural product

Especially today, when it is important to consider environmental protection and sustainable production methods, curd soap is becoming increasingly important again due to its natural production method, its cleaning power and its diverse applications. The areas in which curd soap can be used everywhere are presented in brief keywords:

The high fatty acid content of the curd soap makes it possible to easily remove many non-water-soluble substances, such as mineral-based fats and oils, from surfaces. This means that the curd soap can be used in many areas of the household for surface cleaning, such as on tables, cabinet surfaces, ceramics and much more

Who doesn’t know the good old washboard? The curd soap was probably the most important detergent for washing laundry in times without a washing machine. Even today, curd soap can still be used as an effective detergent, for example in prewashing or to remove stains. By pre-treating the laundry with curd soap, almost all stubborn stains, such as grass stains, can be removed from clothing. For this purpose, the heavily soiled areas are simply moistened slightly in the machine before washing and rubbed directly with the curd soap

For people with normal or oily skin, curd soap can be an excellent body care product. However, persons with dry skin are recommended to use skin care products with replenishing substances, as the curd soap has a strong drying effect. As a body care product, curd soap can be used not only for washing or showering, but also for washing hair and even as a dentifrice. Using curd soap as a dentifrice takes getting used to, but is an insider tip for those looking for a “natural” toothpaste without fluoride, titanium dioxide and other ingredients. Due to the absence of fragrances and dyes, the use of curd soap as a body care product can also be suitable for allergy sufferers

Kernseife is considered to be granny’s home remedy and remedy for various health problems. Due to its strong degreasing effect it is a very popular household remedy especially for impure skin, blackheads or acne. The bacteria in the pimples are deprived of the nutrient medium and the deep cleansing effect actively combats the new formation of skin problems. Because the curd soap is free of additional ingredients, the skin is not irritated additionally. Other health problems where curd soap can be used include, for example:
– nail bed inflammations and other smaller skin inflammations, – for cleaning small wounds on hands and feet, – as foot bath for swelling of legs and feet, – for calf cramps (the curd soap is placed under the bed sheet), – for removing warts, – for fungal diseases on the feet, – for dandruff of the scalp and others. However, these health problems or damage of a greater extent should not be treated without going to the family doctor or specialist
