Even before birth, parents are given advice on which accessories they should buy or what could contribute particularly well to the development of their offspring. Also when bathing babies there is a lot of advice which can be divided into two groups. While some prefer a baby bath, others prefer a baby bucket. A bath bucket is the perfect way to wash your baby, especially in the first few months of life. Many babies even feel so comfortable in it that they don’t necessarily want to be washed in a bathtub later on. What is a baby bath bucket used for? A bath bucket is usually made of plastic or polypropylene, so its own weight is very light. It is usually between 30 and 40 cm high and not particularly wide, so that babies can adopt a posture in it that is reminiscent of that of a foetus. This is exactly why many babies feel particularly comfortable in the bath buckets. The warm water, the protective walls of the bucket and the body posture are comparable to the situation in the womb before birth. In order to wash the baby and give it bathing pleasure, fill the bucket with lukewarm water (35-37°C) up to the specified limit and then gently place the baby in the bucket. To prevent it from diving under water with its head, it should be lightly supported or held by the shoulders, neck or chin. After about 20 minutes the bathing fun should be finished because the water has cooled down. Advantages of a bath bucketIn contrast to a baby bath, a bath bucket has a more practical shape, making it easier to tidy up. Transporting a bucket filled with water is also easier than transporting a bathtub. This is not only due to the shape of the bucket, but also to the filling quantity. A bath bucket holds significantly less water than a bathtub, making it cheaper and more environmentally friendly. The dumping of the bath water, which follows after bathing, can also be managed easier and better with a bucket than it is with a bathtub. First and foremost, however, the preference of the baby should be decisive for the purchase. Many midwives recommend a bath bucket, as the baby can take the foetal position in it and will feel particularly comfortable, but some children feel much more comfortable with a baby bath. It is therefore important to observe the offspring particularly carefully when bathing in order to judge what makes the child happy.
