These should in principle be banned from the budget. Instead, you should offer special cat grass, which makes cats less interested in other indoor plants. In addition, cat grass helps to stimulate the choking of the hair balls and to trigger the natural gag reflex. Some of the cat grass is Cyperus zumula, while others are seeds of other cereals and grasses. You should avoid plants with sharp edges, spines or small barbs on the leaf. It is important that the grasses are not treated with pesticides and are not too woody but relatively tender. Cyperus zumula is often accepted by cats because its stems are extremely soft. Green line species (e.g. Mandarin, Bonnie or Variegatum) are also welcome. However, the mentioned cat grasses also have disadvantages:
– Green lines store pollutants such as nicotine from the air. Cyprus grass is sharp-edged, which can lead to cuts in the stomach and neck.
The cats also like the Nepeta Cataria, also known as catnip. Due to the pleasant mint smell, the fur noses like to rub on it, eat parts of it or even lie down completely in the plant. The four-legged friends relax noticeably. Even nervous cats become much calmer thanks to the pheromone nepetalactone.
