Best Multitool

The housing of a multitool always consists of a metal, predominantly stainless steel. On both sides this case has hinges on which pliers, bit holders, saws, knives and sometimes bit holders with a small set of all common bits sit. With regard to the equipment, the Multitool has to be designed carefully. The simplest models are intended more as survival aids. Even variants with only four to five functions are referred to as multitools. High-quality models for demanding outdoor use have at least 17 functions. In addition to the pocket-knife-shaped housing, there are also pliers models of this type from whose pliers jaws further mini tools can be unfolded. For types up to 17 functions, pliers, screwdriver (slot, cross and Torax depending on model), knife, file, can opener and saw are included. Often each screwdriver size is listed as an additional function. Preference should be given to models with a bit holder and a multi-part set of attachment bits on the housing. Depending on the material, an average weight of about 300 grams can be assumed as the weight scale.

Premium models up to 500 grams are for example equipped with a mini lock and special bicycle tools for repairing bicycles, may also have a nail file and fishing accessories. For frequent travelers such a rather price-intensive purchase can be worthwhile. For the occasional use the equipment requires a rather unclear handling.

Screwdriver, saw, knife and file are basic functions, with lightweight models possibly also nail clipper and pliers. Such a multitool weighs about 100 to 150 grams. It serves more as an additional tool to the existing toolbox. It should be noted that lightweight models are often offered at very low prices, but in quite short-lived quality.

Size and functionality make Multitools the optimal tool case in your trouser pocket. But frequent use can limit versatility, and very extensive equipment has a detrimental effect on price and ease of use.
