Nowadays, the bigger a television, the better it is. Today, sizes of up to 60 inches are not uncommon and this means that the screen diagonal of these televisions is more than 150 centimeters. Until a few years ago, televisions of this size were hardly affordable, but advances in technology have made televisions increasingly affordable. Those who thus have a large living room can also buy a large plasma or LDC television and thus set up their own cinema area. TV sets are being catapulted to the top of consumer electronics through new technologies such as Internet capability and 3D. The question, however, is what to do if you want to watch TV on the road. Many often don’t have a laptop, tablet PC or smartphone with them to watch TV. The portable television or portable television is then a great help and offers good services. The TV is portable, lightweight and small, making it ideal for watching TV in a café, car or train. A portable TV is therefore a small TV set, which is often referred to as a pocket TV. Even in former times it was a small model, which could be carried back and forth between the rooms by an integrated handle. Nowadays, these portable televisions hardly exist any more, but there are small plasma or LCD televisions with a screen diagonal of up to 32 inches. These televisions are absolutely lightweight and therefore they can be worn without any problems. Through these new and lightweight televisions, the market became uninteresting for the original type of portable TV sets.

Television & Home Cinema: Portable televisions Video Guide
The first portable pocket televisions were already available for purchase in the mid-1960s. Portable, however, was a somewhat inappropriate term, as the first models with several kilos were actually too heavy to be classified as portable. At the beginning, the power supply was still a problem and the batteries and rechargeable batteries were not so well developed, so that the operation of the portable television at that time was still relatively expensive. The mini televisions at that time also had their price and therefore they were hardly cheaper than the larger models. Portable pocket televisions then came onto the market in the 1970s and they all still used the picture tube as they were used for the large televisions. The first LCD screens did not appear until the early 1980s, and Casio, for example, launched a mini television with a liquid crystal screen in 1983. Here, however, there was still the black-and-white display, because the color did not exist until a few years later. From this moment on the development progresses faster and companies from Japan like Casio or Sony took care of the small televisions intensively. However, the Dutch Philips group also wanted to get involved. From then on, the televisions became lighter, smaller and the picture became better through the DVB-T standard then.
