Everything for animals: Rodent cage Video Guide
For a small hamster or a mouse a small cage is of course sufficient, this can be one with a plastic tub and a grid box to clamp on it, so that the small rodent can climb and move freely in its cage. A hamster wheel is highly recommended for hamsters, because this small animal wants to run and be constantly in motion. They love to be able to retreat into a dark little house, which is best lined with cotton wool of other soft materials or scraps of fabric. In addition, mice and hamsters alike like to crawl through dark tubes and shafts, so a rodent cage with a sophisticated tube system is also highly recommended. These tube cages come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colours and variations, so there is something for every budget. Of course for hamsters and mice as well as for the aforementioned larger rodents there are also much larger rodent cages made of metal or wood with glass or plastic fronts, so that one can observe the small apartment companion in it also wonderfully. This is especially useful in a household with small children, so the children can constantly observe their animals without having to disturb them in their activities. Many rodents are active at night and sleep during the day, so it does not make sense to constantly rip them out of their sleep-wake rhythm. Of course the children want to stroke their pets and take them in their arms but a permanent disturbance can lead to illness or premature death of the animals. This can be largely prevented with such a rodent cage with transparent fronts. Thus one can at least see the small domestic animal and it is incumbent then on the educate-entitled ones to educate the children a kind and animal-fair behavior and to teach them consideration
That a rabbit or a rabbit cannot be kept in the hamster cage is probably clear as day. They need exercise, should be able to hobble back and forth a little and find a soft place to sleep made of straw, where they also just love to nibble. This can also be a two-storey cage with a ladder for climbing up to the upper floor, which hares, rabbits, guinea pigs and croissants especially like to do. There are standing cages that can be placed on a table or other solid surface, but also cages that have their own feet and can be set up like a house. Either they are kept in box form or actually in the form of a small house for the friend of the family. Sometimes large light windows covered with wire mesh are useful, so the animal gets a lot of fresh air, can be observed and feels almost like outside
If the cage is to be kept outdoors all year round, which is much too cold for hamsters and guinea pigs, then an almost closed rodent cage should be chosen. This should be well insulated and in winter it should be covered with warm materials so that the rodent does not freeze. For the interiors, just like for birds, there are large cage aviaries in which the rodents can climb and do gymnastics to their heart’s content on various footbridges, ladders and levels. Currently, so-called wooden chest cages with a hinged lid at the top and several levels inside the cage are also very popular. At the front there is a transparent disc or a wire mesh to look into the cage
Straw or a special rodent bedding as a soft and warming base are the absolute must have of every rodent cage. The excrements of the animals are to be caught with it largely odour-binding, nevertheless the cage is to be cleaned 1-2 times per week thoroughly in order to prevent diseases and bad smells in the dwelling. A drinking vessel or tube and a feeding bowl are also essential. All rodents need a small cottage or a cuddle cave to sleep and retreat. A hamster wheel and tube system in the hamster and mouse cage are recommended as well as other play equipment such as rockers, ladders, bridges, tubes, ropes, tunnels as well as climbing rings and tires. Rodents want to play in their waking phases, move and be fully occupied at all times!
