Drugstore articles: Liquid detergent Video Guide
What is liquid detergent? These are detergents that contain almost the same ingredients as washing powder. The most important components are surfactants, substances which serve to reduce the surface tension and thus remove the dirt from the fibres. In addition, liquid detergents contain a whole range of other components such as optical brighteners and preservatives. What are the advantages of liquid detergents? They are easier to dose than washing powder. As they do not contain any bleaching agents, no light residues remain after washing. Liquid detergents dissolve more quickly. They are also suitable for small quantities of laundry, short washing times and even hand washing. What are the disadvantages of liquid detergents? A whole range. As already mentioned, they do not contain bleach because this would reduce the shelf life. That has two negative effects. The absence of bleach means that liquid detergents are not as effective at removing stains as washing powder. They get along well with the removal of dust or sweat or bad smells, but when it comes to fruit or grass stains or even red wine stains, they capitulate. In order to achieve a comparable washing effect as with powder, a pre-treatment with special stain removers is indispensable. On the other hand, the lack of bleaching agents means that white laundry washed exclusively with liquid detergents turns grey over time. The preservatives contained in liquid detergents are released into the environment at the end of the washing cycle and unnecessarily increase the pollutant load. What about the detergent pods? There’s been a lot of advertising about them lately. These are sachets of water-soluble membrane containing a precisely dosed quantity of liquid detergent. The membrane is dissolved on contact with the hot water and the liquid detergent is released. Detergent pods have the only advantage that they are more convenient to use. Otherwise there are only disadvantages. They are much more expensive than other detergents and very dangerous for children or dementia sufferers because they can be confused with sweets because of their bright colours. In addition, the dosage cannot be changed. For example, slightly soiled laundry requires far less detergent than heavily soiled laundry (work clothing). This results in unnecessary extra consumption of detergent, which is detrimental to the wallet and the environment. Does liquid detergent make sense at all? Yes, as a supplement to a good universal washing powder. Liquid detergents are practical when there are only a few pieces of laundry to wash or for quick hand washing in between. In this case, however, consumers should prefer to use liquid detergents for Color because they do not leave any white residue on the laundry. Liquid washing powders or special liquid washing powders for black textiles, on the other hand, are superfluous and a waste of money. Which liquid detergents are recommended?Several tests have shown that the well-known brands are considerably more expensive than no-name products, but do not necessarily convince in the washing performance. In the majority of cases, a no-name liquid detergent from a discount store or your own brand from a drugstore is perfectly sufficient. SummaryLiquid detergents have significantly more disadvantages than washing powders. They are most suitable as a supplement to washing powder in special cases, when only little laundry is to be washed or for hand washing. Anyone who buys liquid detergents should choose products for coloured textiles. Liquid detergents or special detergents for black textiles are unnecessary and do not have the desired effect. It does not necessarily have to be expensive brand products, no-name liquid detergents or private brands often wash even better.
