The casein glue can absorb the water very quickly and well and produce a solid paste in a short time. After successfully mixing the two ingredients, the casein glue should be left to stand for some time. After 1/4 to 1/2 hours a viscous substance is formed, which is also called calcium caseinate. The hardened glue does not become liquid again by the addition of water and should therefore be produced with caution and under no circumstances for stock. With some additives, the casein glue, when prepared, can remain spreadable for a maximum of eight hours. The service life can be increased by cold setting. The successful and effortless application of the wood glue is best achieved with a spatula or high-quality roller. For best results, the wood glue should be applied to both woods at the same time. Already after ten minutes the first layers of the wood glue can be seen. A pressing time of up to 1 1/2 hours must be expected when gluing untensioned wooden parts. The tensioned joints must be pressed for up to 6 hours. The casein glue can leave very strong stains on the wood, so that it is rarely used in visible places. Other well-known wood glues include polyurethane glues, low-formaldehyde dispersion glues, low-formaldehyde polycondensation glues, phenol-formaldehyde resin glues, resorcinol-formaldehyde resin glues and urea-formaldehyde resin glues.

The wood glue is processed and produced very differently by the manufacturers. It should be noted that the application of wood glue to wood and other materials may cause stains and discoloration. The wood glue can be applied on one or both sides. Some surfaces require double glue application. The suitable room temperature for the application of wood glue should always be 18°C to 20°C. The optimum humidity must be between 50 and 70 %. The joint parts should be fitted and compressed within eight to ten minutes. An optimum glue application quantity for surface gluing is between 80 and 140 g/m².
