Front loaders have a long list of advantages. Below that, their stability. Since they are broadly built, they have a large footprint. This means that they do not move even in the spin cycle – and can be placed under the worktop or integrated into a fitted kitchen, for example. With an antivibration mat you can also prevent them from “jumping”. In addition, they can literally be built upon or stacked in the air. A tumble dryer can be conveniently placed on the machines. The surface can also be used as a storage area. Apart from that, front loaders have a great variety to offer, as they can be fitted with large drums. Depending on their size, they can be loaded with up to 15 kilograms of laundry. This is ideal for large families and anyone who needs to wash a lot or a lot of laundry, such as duvets. Smaller machines or drums start with a maximum load of about 6 kilograms. Front loaders are also easy on the back. With top loaders, smaller people have to stretch a lot in order to be able to remove the last pieces of laundry from the drums. Unloading is much more convenient with front loaders. In addition, they offer insight into the washing process. Did a foreign body accidentally get into the drum or did a red T-shirt get lost in the white laundry? Such oversights and faults are noticeable through the door pane and can be rectified accordingly before damage or discolouration occurs. Last but not least, the front loaders are already available at very low prices. Here, too, however, there is a large range. Simple models with a rather small loading capacity are already available for about 200 Euro. Washing machines with numerous additional functions and a very high capacity can cost over 2000 Euros

The possible disadvantages of front loaders are limited to two points: The size and wear of the door sleeve. Although the width benefits the machines in terms of stability, it also restricts the positioning options. Especially in some new buildings and very small bathrooms, niches for the washing machine are occasionally already provided and fixed by the connections. Often these are so tight that only a top loader fits into them. Front loaders generally take up more space. This can be problematic in confined spaces. In addition, there is the door cuff or the bellows. This is the sealing ring located between the door and the drum. In the spin cycle it is exposed to immense forces and strongly in motion. Over time it can wear out or become brittle and cracked. Missing and wrong care and cleaning contribute to this. This also applies to very high-quality and thus correspondingly expensive models. However, excessive wear and tear and the risk of damage can be reduced by maintaining the machine properly.
