Before buying underbody protection, a few things should be noted. The choice of product depends on which sealant has been applied before. Visually, however, this is hardly recognizable. But there are a few tips that will make it easier to detect. Thus one can recognize wax by brownish discolorations or by the transparency. If it is bitumen, petroleum must be used to remove it. Mixed products of PVC, rubber and bitumen are difficult to detect. For these a chemical analysis would have to be done.

Underbody protection may only be applied to immobile vehicle parts. These must not be located in heat-endangered areas. In addition, underbody protection must not be used to treat some parts of the vehicle. These include the engine, the wheel bearing, the rims, the clutch cables, the rear silencer and front silencer, the exhaust duct with the catalytic converter, the clutch engagement lever, the brake lines and cables, the shock absorbers, the handbrake cable and the bushings. It is also recommended to wear a breathing mask.
