Today, simple notebooks are no longer the most modern technology. Today, so-called ultrabooks are increasingly being purchased and used on a daily basis. But what kind of technical product is it, and what is its advantage? What should be considered when buying and where are the traps?

What are the advantages of Ultrabooks? As mentioned earlier, Ultrabooks are primarily suitable for mobile use, whether privately at university or in the office. For this purpose, the low weight in combination with the low overall height is a major advantage. Modern ultrabooks weigh significantly less than 1.5 kilograms even in the large 14-inch format and are hardly higher than a normal daily newspaper when folded. The transport is therefore no problem at all. Mobility also benefits from the long-lasting batteries. Since Ultrabooks are equipped with extremely economical processors and the general power consumption can be reduced significantly, Ultrabooks are much more durable than normal notebooks. Current top models often last the whole day with a full battery charge, while running times of 12 hours and more are often possible today. Also the optics is definitely a clear advantage of the Ultrabooks. Especially in comparison to normal notebooks, which are often relatively boring and simply designed, the Ultrabooks inspire with extremely flat cases, extraordinary shapes and additionally interesting colorings. Thanks to high-quality materials such as aluminium or carbon, the ultrabooks also feel much better. Also the performance is a big advantage of the Ultrabooks. The days when they had to struggle with heat problems under load are long gone thanks to well thought-out designs. Very practical: Thanks to Intel’s continuously optimized processors, the devices are also more powerful than ever before. Today, even sophisticated software such as video editing or image processing are no longer a problem. What should be paid attention to when buying? Expensive is not equal to good, and cheap is not equal to bad. According to this motto, the purchase of a new Ultrabook should be considered. The basis for a reasonable decision is extensive research before the purchase. Before you buy, you should also think carefully about what tasks and software you want to use your Ultrabook for. Because not all models are really suitable for all tasks. For example, if you want to use your Ultrabook daily at university in order to be able to write comfortably during the lectures, you should place great value on a long battery life with your Ultrabook in the first place, in order to be able to really work independently of the power socket. A high-quality keyboard, in the best case with a backlight, is also an advantage in this case, but it looks different if you want to use your Ultrabook universally or as a replacement for a normal desktop PC. The focus in this case should of course be more on the maximum power. A large main memory and a fast processor in combination with a large and fast SSD are mandatory in this case in order to be able to meet the demands of everyday life. The battery life or the weight can be neglected in this case for it. You should be careful with the particularly favorable models. Manufacturers often save on hardware and use older processors, a small amount of RAM or a housing made of inexpensive plastic, for example.

Computer, Notebooks & Tablets: Ultrabook Video Guide

What is an Ultrabook anyway? Basically, an Ultrabook is a registered trademark of Intel. Ultrabooks are especially light and mobile notebooks. But when a notebook can really end up with the name Ultrabook is determined by Intel rules. For example, only processors specially produced and developed by Intel may be used for the ultrabooks. The maximum overall height that the housing may have is of course also a fixed requirement.
