A downer is that the wire-reinforced tyre cannot be folded. This means that it is not possible to take the tyre with you on cycling tours as a replacement. Folding tyres have established themselves for this purpose, especially among racing cyclists. These are also wire tires in principle, but instead of solid metal wires flexible and very light aramid threads or Kevlar threads are used.
