The water canister is a normal canister in which water is transported/filled. The term canister comes from the Latin “Canistrum” which means “braided basket” in German. The canister originated in the German Wehrmacht in 1936. Eisenwerke Müller & Co. developed the so-called Wehrmacht unit canisters with a capacity of 20 litres (today they are coveted collector’s items and are often copied and falsified by fraudsters). These were further developed by Ambi-Budd and produced in large quantities in many countries by various manufacturers. There was also a copy and replica of the Allies.
